Yet another female elephant cub's death in Coimbatore forest limits has shocked the forest department and environmentalists. The cub was found dead in the Bhavani catchment area of Sirumugaiforest range in Coimbatore and is suspected to be 6-years-old.
Forester and forest staff patrolled Sirumugai forest range, Modur Pethikkuttai dense forest area, and Bhavanisagar catchment areas in Coimbatore district yesterday, 28th March.A six-year-old female elephant was found dead in the Bhavanisagar reservoir, about 60 meters from Kaappukkadu.
The district forest officer and the veterinary medical officer were informed about the elephant's death. Wild elephants are more prevalent in the dense forest areas in the evening. The team of veterinary officer Sukumar, led by the district forest officer and forest ranger, will conduct an autopsy on the female elephant cub today.
