Bharat Bandh: Road roko in Valparai disrupts school routines for students

Trade unions staged a blockade on the roads in Valparai as part of the Bharat Bandh leaving commuters and students in the region hassled.

Valparai: As part of the joint forum of trade unions' nationwide strike called against the Central Government on March 28 and 29 in dissent of the hike in petrol and diesel prices, the trade unions in Valparai blocked roads disrupting the daily routine of commuters and students in the region.

Led by the DMK Union in Valparai, a protest was held on March 28 with over 50 people participating.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), MDMK Union and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Union staged a protest at the Gandhi statue bus stand and later also staged a road blockade.

Valparai police intervened and tried to disperse the protesters since students and commuters were being inconvenienced.

However, more than 20 Anganwadi workers on behalf of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged another protest at the Gandhi statue premises demanding a reduction in petrol and diesel prices.
