Mayor inaugurates Varum Mun Kappom scheme in Maniyakarampalayam in Coimbatore

The Coimbatore Corporation Mayor Kalpana Anadakumar inaugurated the Varum Mun Kappom scheme of Ex-CM Karunanidhi at the Corporation High School in ward 19 Maniyakarampalayam in North Zone on Sunday, 27th March.


Coimbatore: The Varum Mun Kappom scheme was inaugurated at Corporation high school in Maniyakaranpalayam in Coimbatore.

The Coimbatore Corporation Mayor Kalpana Anadakumar inaugurated the Varum Mun Kappom scheme of Ex-CM Karunanidhi at the Corporation High School in ward 19 Maniyakarampalayam in North Zone on Sunday, 27th March. Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara presided over the function. City Welfare Officer Dr. Satheesh Kumar delivered the welcome address.

The Mayor, Kalpana, speaking on the occasion, stated that she was happy to inaugurate the Varum Mun Kappom initiative as per the orders of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and under the directions of the Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji, at the Maniyakaranpalayam Corporation Higher Secondary School.

She added that the CM has sanctioned funds for the construction of one Town Welfare Centre each in Coimbatore Corporation at a total cost of Rs.15.75 crores at 63 places at an estimated cost of Rs 25.00 lakhs.

The construction work has now begun, and at this medical camp, various special treatments such as maternity treatment, child health, fracture, general medicine, etc. will be provided. Four special medical camps are scheduled to be held in Coimbatore as per the state government's orders and the number of beneficiaries in the first camp is stated to be 1,040. In the first camp, 1359 tests were conducted. Seven persons were referred to the government hospital for further treatment out of which 6 underwent cataract surgery and one underwent special joint therapy (Plate removal).

Subsequently, two camps were held at Vellakinaru and Vilankurichi and she added that about 1,500 participated and benefitted. Sixteen specialist doctors will conduct medical examinations of the people and those who need additional treatment will be referred to a specality hospital.

Speaking of the Makkal Thedi Maruthuvam, the Mayor added that 50,000 people have benefited in the corporation area under the medical scheme launched by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. More than 500 are being treated at home. She further requested that the pregnant mothers living in the corporation area benefit from the Muthulakshmi Reddy maternity special assistance scheme launched by ex-CM Karunanidhi. She added that 63 Wellness Centres will be set up in our Corporation area at the earliest and the public to benefit from it.



After visiting the special medical exhibition held earlier, the Mayor distributed nutrition vaults to the pregnant women and bangles, flowers, and bindhi to 75 pregnant women at the communal baby shower at the community protection program.



She then visited the treatment of an elderly man suffering from diabetes and enquired about the treatment methods.



Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara, City Welfare Officer Dr.Satheesh Kumar, Council Members Thavamani Palaniappan, Mariaraj, Ranganayaki, Parthiban, Vairamurugan, Thamilchelvan, Babu, Saranya, Ambika Dhanapal, Karpagam, Chitra Velringiri, and other officials were present.



Deputy Mayor R.Vetriselvan inaugurated the Kalaignar's Varumun Kappom initiative at Ward No.87 Kuniyamuthur Government Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore Corporation South Zone and visited the medical camp. He was accompanied by Annadurai, Assistant Commissioner, South Zone, Karuppusamy, Assistant Executive Engineer, and members of the Council.
