An eight-year-old female elephant with injuries in its mouth found in Boluvampatti forest range, Mullankadu, Thanikandi forest area in Coimbatore, is being treated by a team of veterinarians and the forest officers suspect that the animal must have consumed something filled with avuttu kai.
Coimbatore: An 8-year-old sick female elephant is being treated and is being monitored in Coimbatore by the forest department. The first round of examinations reveal that animal might have suffered injuries in avuttu kai attacks.
An eight-year-old female elephant was found to be suffering from illness in the Boluvampatti forest range, Mullankadu Thanikandi area by the Forest department personnel patrolling yesterday. They found that the baby elephant was seriously ill with injuries in its mouth and the district forest officer and veterinary officer were informed about this.
A team of veterinarians and forest officials has been monitoring the movement of the elephant since this morning.
An anesthetic injection was administered to the elephant and is currently undergoing treatment.
In the first phase of the study, it was found that the elephant's mouth area has severe injuries, 90 percent of the tongue is cut off.
It has been found that the elephant might have been injured while eating avuttu kai that exploded in its mouth. The elephant, which is currently unconscious, is under medication. Elephant surveillance teams have also been called in from Topslip.
