Coimbatore: Four people, including two women, were arrested in Bengaluru by the Coimbatore Cybercrime police, in connection with loan fraud.

A gang of four people, including two women who harassed a woman's family and friends, over loan repayment issues was arrested by the City crime branch police in Bengaluru.

Swathi, a native of Veeriyampalayam in the Coimbatore district, had applied for a loan of around Rs 1 lakh through various mobile online apps. However, only Rs 57,000 was deposited in the bank account, of which Rs 74,000 was refunded along with interest. Four people, out of which two were women, from the 'Smar App Loan' contacted Swati insisting on paying the remaining amount with the interest and interest for late payment.

The gang also managed to contact the friends and family of Swati, sending messages through WhatsApp and text messages that Swathi is a fraudster and has shared her photos on WhatsApp, saying that she has not paid the loan, taking contacts from her phone.

Swathi lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore district cybercrime branch police and also shared the mobile numbers of the people harassing her and her family. Investigations revealed that the numbers belonged to Asriya Afreen (24), Rahman Shariff (24), Yaseen Baasha (27), and Parveen (31), all residents of Bengaluru.

The city police arrested all four, produced them before the court and the women were lodged in the special cell for women in Coimbatore Central Jail and the men in Pollachi sub-jail.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the four were working in a firm called Smar App Loan run by one Sunny and were working from home for a salary of Rs 30,000 per month and as part of their job, they were contacting the borrowers through the app and extorting money from them.

Sunny, has been under the veil to date and had contacted his employees only online. Therefore, the police suspect that Sunny may have been running the company from abroad and are investigating the matter.
