Eight months after teacher kidnaps two teen girls, city police nab him in Tirupati; girls rescued safe

The government school teacher who went missing after kidnapping two teenage girls from Coimbatore and Kanyakumari was nabbed in Tirupati by the special squad after one of the girls secretly managed to inform parents about their whereabouts.


Coimbatore: A government school teacher who kidnapped two teenage girls, was arrested in Tirupati by the special squad, after 8 months of the probe.

After eight months of search for a former teacher who was wanted in connection with the abduction of two teenage girls, the Coimbatore police have arrested him and rescued two young girls from him.



Manimaran alias Chinnathambi hails from Athur in Salem district. Manimaran, is married and has a child. He lived separately after he had differences of opinion with his wife. Manimaran ran a company named A to Z in Athur in Salem district and went into hiding after defrauding the public. As a result, he was sacked as a teacher in a government school.

However, he managed to deceive the people of Saravanampatti of Coimbatore that he was a dance teacher while living in a house and kidnapped a 16-year-old girl in July last year. He stayed in Suseenthram in Kanyakumari with her, where, he took a 19-year-old girl and went into hiding.

Eight special teams were formed as there were no leads in the cases both in Coimbatore and Kanyakumari. In a twist of events, the 19-year-old from Kanyakumari, who was one of the two girls kidnapped managed to contact her parents and inform them about her whereabouts.

The girl, crying over the phone stated that Manimaran has been harassing them by making them sell tea in Tirupati. Acting on a tip-back, the Special squad police reached Tirupati and arrested Manimaran, and rescued the two girls. The special cell police, who brought the arrested teacher Manimaran to Coimbatore, is interrogating him.

Manimaran who was being searched under POCSO Act, for kidnapping a 16-year-old, is now been arrested after 8 months.
