World Head Injury Day: District Collector flags off helmet awareness rally in Coimbatore

The Coimbatore District Collector advised that it is mandatory for two wheelers to wear a helmet and that an accident while not wearing a helmet can not only cause mild head injuries but also be life threatening.


Coimbatore: World Head Injury Day is observed today to raise awareness about preventing headaches.



Accordingly, a Helmet Awareness Rally was held on behalf of Coimbatore Private Hospital. District Collector GS Sameeran, who was the special guest at the event, flagged off the rally.

The rally started from Gandhipuram Nanjappa Road and reached the Royal Care Hospital in Nilambur via Ganapathy, Saravanampatti, Kalapatti and Serayampalayam.



Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector advised that it is mandatory for riders on two-wheelers to wear a helmet and that an accident while not wearing a helmet could result not only in a serious head injury but also in a life-threatening condition. Therefore, two-wheeler drivers should not be negligent about wearing a helmet.

Speaking on the ongoing road accidents in Coimbatore district, the Collector said that 49 blind spots have been identified on the roads in Coimbatore district and notice boards have been put up there, thereby reducing most of the accidents.



He also said that steps are being taken to make all those places completely safe. The Chief Minister, who provides free treatment in government and private hospitals within the first 48 hours of a road accident, explained the 48 plans and activities that protect us.
