College girl raises complaint against finance company for harassing family in Coimbatore

A college student reported at the District Superintendent’s office stating a finance company in which her late father had obtained loan, has been harassing the family for repayment, and demanded necessary action.


Coimbatore: A college girl sought for help at the District SP’s office reporting of harassment by a finance company for repayment of loan.

In the wake of the death of her father in Coimbatore after borrowing a loan from a private finance company, the victim tearfully complained to the District Superintendent of Police Selvanagarathinam, Coimbatore stated that she and her family were being threatened and abused by the company for repayment of loan.

Ramprabha, a college student, has been repaying her father’s loan post his and her grandmother’s death. She raised complaints stating the company employees were threatening her family, her school-going sisters, and were abusive as she could not pay the amount immediately.

Thangaraj was from Alanthurai area of Coimbatore. He worked as a well cutter. Reportedly, Thangaraj pawned his house deed, in Sathi, Erode, in 2018, and borrowed money from a private finance company. Thangaraj and his mother Kunjammal were paying the loan. Kunjammal died, followed by Thangaraj who succumbed to a cardiac arrest in May, last year. His daughter, Ramprabha, a college student, worked part-time and has been repaying the loan.

Ramprabha, tearfully complained to the SP stating she, her sisters and mother were being threatened by the company employees, despite her elaborating her situation to them.

She lamented that "We live in a rented house in Coimbatore. After my father and grandmother died, I am working part-time and paid Rs 23,000 for the loan. However, they threaten and demanded that I pay the money immediately, speaking inappropriately. I also attempted to commit suicide.”

She alleged that the company demanded Rs 6 lakhs, while the loan borrowed was just three lakhs and they threatened to seize their house.

“I could not repay the loan immediately with my three sisters in school. I request to take appropriate action and save my family."
