Children’s park in Cheranmanagar under-maintained; locals request city Corporation to take over

The locals in Cheranmanagar in Coimbatore have requested that the Corporation takes over the maintenance of the children’s park as the area has been left without care for the past few days

Coimbatore: The locals in Cheranmanagar in Coimbatore have requested that the Corporation takes over the maintenance of the children’s park as the area has been left without care for the past few days. The neglect in maintenance of Cheranmanagar Children's Play Park has led the public to make requests to the corporation to take necessary steps.

A grand children’s park has been constructed at the reserve site near the last bus stop in Cheranmanagar State Transport Corporation officials and employees residence in Vilankurichi Road.

There are 568 houses with three blocks, A B & C. The park, which was set up four years ago, has been under maintained for the past few days and people have demanded that the corporation administration take appropriate action before the park and the equipment installed there are completely damaged.

The maintenance of the park is handled by a private company, for which the City Corporation pays Rs 65,000 per month. The locals stated that the maintenance of the park is in the hands of a private contractor and two employees engaged in park maintenance are paid a salary of Rs 7,000 per month. The contractors are also paid.

It has been alleged that only two buckets and two people have been supplied by the contractor in the last four years and no materials, including sickle, crowbar, and phenol acid required to clean the latrines, to irrigate the plants are provided. The idols of animals erected inside the park complex have started deteriorating and the artificial waterfall is only a showpiece.

Moreover, tiles set up on the corridor at various places within the park complex are reduced to rubble. With the agreement with the private company on behalf of the Corporation ending in 3 months, the people have demanded that the corporation administration should take up the maintenance work next time, instead of outsourcing it to a third party.

One of the sources said 'The corporation administration should take steps to ensure that the children's park, which has been set up for public use at a cost of several lakhs of rupees is well maintained, and the corporation has to ensure that it continues to benefit the people in the coming days.'

The locals expect Babu, the candidate who emerged victorious in Ward 22 of Coimbatore Corporation, should take note of the issue at the council.
