Koniamman Car festival in Coimbatore; flag hoisting to be held tomorrow, 22nd Feb

The most popular annual event of Coimbatore, the car festival held at the Koniamman temple in Coimbatore is all set to begin this year and the flag hoisting ceremony, the Kodiyettram, will be held on 22nd February, Tuesday


Coimbatore: The flag hoisting ceremony will be held tomorrow, 22nd February,on the occasion of the Koniamman Temple Car Festival, which is the guardian deity of Coimbatore.

On the occasion of the Koniamman Temple Chariot festival that is held annually in the month of March, has begun with the preparations. The Muhurtha Kaal setting ceremony took place on 14th February, and the flag hoisting ceremony will be held at 7:00 pm, on Tuesday, 22nd February along with ‘Agnichatu’.

A special puja will be held with a 9 to 5 size white cloth with a Simha Vahanam, (lion vehicle) with a trident (Soolayudham) a symbol of energy, painted and designed by the Sivaacharyas in yellow and red colors, placed at the foot of Koniamman.

After the special pujas, Sivaacharyas will hoist the flag offered with auspicious music and a procession will be held for three round around the temple. A fire pole will be placed at the temple’s entrance and a firepot will be placed in it. Subsequently, Koniamman will be adorned with pearl clothes and will be placed on a car with Lord Ganesh and Sooladeva.

The deity will be taken for procession Music along the big bazaar streetVaishyal street, Karuppugounder Road, Raja street, Chariot station, and again via Periyakada Road. Necessary arrangements have been made on behalf of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department for devotees to perform Swami Darshan.
