Public arriving at polling booths in Coimbatore sent back as voting time concludes; candidates protest

As per the rule, no one is allowed to cast their vote after 5 pm and thus the public arriving at the polling booths at various places in Coimbatore are being sent back.


Coimbatore: As per the rule, no one is allowed to cast their vote after 5 pm and thus the public arriving at the polling booths at various places in Coimbatore are being sent back.

The urban local body elections in Coimbatore have concluded by 5 pm and the voters who arrived at polling booths were not allowed to cast their votes. This led to a verbal clash between the public and the police department deployed for security at the booths.

Moreover, the police locked the polling booth gates as members of political parties continued to demand letting voters in for voting.

The closure of polling stations left voters and party figures waiting at the door.



The candidates at Ward 30 Ganapathy area, all party candidates are protesting in front of the polling booth.



They mentioned that the polling commenced a little late in the morning and thus cannot be closed by 5 pm exactly.
