Kundam Festival celebrated at Mariamman Temple in Kinathukadavu

The renowned famous Kundam festival at the Mariamman Temple was held on Thursday in which devotees, who had been fasting for the festival ran on the fire bed as a prayer to the deity


Coimbatore: The renowned Kundam festival of the Mariamman Temple was held on Thursday. As part of the festival, devotees who had observed a fast ahead of the festival ran on the fire bed as a form of offering prayer to the deity.

The 111th Kundam festival was held at the Mariamman temple located in RS Road in Kinathukadavu, Coimbatore on Thursday, 17th February. The ritual began on the 17th of January, and the Kundam opening ceremony was held on Wednesday morning. A flower rearing ceremony was held for Kundam at 6 pm and by 7 pm a ceremony was held to bring the deity from the Mamangam River to the temple with the flower decorations.



The goddess was taken in a procession in a palanquin made of flowers. On Thursday morning, a special puja was performed to the Kundam set up in front of the temple. The devotees descended on kundam and offered their prayers to the goddess Mariamman.

The Kundam festival concludes today, 18th February,morning with a yellow shower ceremony, Manjal Neeratu Vizha and special pujas for Mariyamman will be performed to close the ceremony.
