Coimbatore: The election Flying squad Team, FST, have to date seized Rs.1.27 crores during vehicle check conducted as the election code of conduct came into force since the date of election announcement.

A sum of Rs.1.27 crore is seized in multiple raids carried out by the flying squad officers in Coimbatore district till Sunday. As many as 72 flying squads have been formed and a 24-hour intensive search is being conducted in the city, as the urban local body elections will be held on the 19th. The election code of conduct was put in force and, it was announced that no gifts or money shall be distributed to the public for votes.

Since then on, the public was informed that source of income of cash valued above Rs.50,000, has to be carried and relevant documents must be produced if and when demanded.

Election Department officials said, “The money taken without documents is seized and handed over to the Regional Treasury Office. As of now, Rs.1.27 crore has been seized in Corporation, Municipality, and Town Panchayats in Coimbatore district. In the five zones of the corporation alone, Rs.42 lakh has been seized.”
