Installation of 'VORDME' equipment, construction of 7 flight parking bays completed at Coimbatore International Airport, Every 10 years, the runway resurfacing work will be carried out at the airport

Coimbatore International Airport serves the aviation needs of people from seven surrounding districts. Post the 'Covid-19' third wave outbreak, both flight and passenger movements were badly affected. But development activities continued to be carried out at the airport.

Coimbatore International Airport Director, S.Senthil Valavan stated, "At present, there are 11 flight parking bays. It was decided to construct 7 new parking bays and the work has now been completed. Five newly-constructed parking bays will help A 320/B 737 type aircrafts to be parked while the other two new parking bays will help ATR(Small flight) type aircraft to be parked.

Installing 'VORDME' advanced navigation equipment at the airport was carried out at a cost of Rs. 3 crores. VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range(VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The 'VOR' allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. The 'VORDME' will help pilots to calculate the distance 200 miles before landing. The calibration test has also been successfully completed. Very soon 'VORDME' will be inaugurated and the runway resurfacing work will also commence soon. Every 10 years, the runway resurfacing work will be carried out at the airport. This work will commence soon at the Coimbatore International Airport," assured the Airport Director.
