Vegetables galore on Air Arabia; 17 tonnes of vegetables being exported every week from Coimbatore to Sharjah

Each flight which can accommodate 168 passengers and cargo had more vegetables booked in February as cargo.


Coimbatore: Even as flight operations were hit with the onset of the 'Covid-19' third wave, a new trend is being seen with 'Air Arabia' airlines operating 5 flights every week, in February, between Coimbatore and Sharjah.

The flight which can accommodate 168 passengers and cargo had more vegetables booked during the month as cargo.

Aviation sources say, "Usually many items such as vegetables, industry goods such as castings etc. are booked as cargo on the Air Arabia flights being operated between Coimbatore and Sharjah. From the beginning of February, only vegetables have been booked in large quantities as cargo on these flights.

3.5 tonnes of vegetables comprising of Small Onions, Snake Gourd, Karunai Kilangu, Cluster Beans, Ridge Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Drumsticks, Ladies Finger, Kovaikai were booked on these flights. These vegetables were being brought from Theni district and Ottanchathiram (Dindigul district).

During February, on a day when passenger and baggage load was low, 6 tonnes of vegetable cargo was loaded on the flight instead of the usual 3.5 tonnes. This month alone, until now, an average of 17.5 tonnes of vegetable cargo was sent between Coimbatore and Sharjah," added aviation sources.
