Women who worked for the party not given seats, but tickets given to wives and daughters of DMK executives: DMK women’s wing protest in front of Minister Senthil Balaji's house in Coimbatore

While 50 per cent of the seats in the DMK are reserved for women, no seats have been allotted to those who have worked on behalf of DMK's women's wing. Seats were allocated to candidates who have not worked a single day for the party, said protestors. 70 women arrested yesterday midnight

Coimbatore: With only one day left to file nominations in the urban local body elections, the DMK women's wing had staged a sit-in in front of Minister Senthil Balaji's residence yesterday night demanding a reconsideration of the decision to deny councilors seats to women who have “actually worked for the party” for many years.

As chaos continues over the allocation of ward candidates to the DMK and its allies, members of the women's wing are currently protesting in front of Minister Senthil Balaji's house on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore.

"While 50% of the seats in the DMK are reserved for women, no seats have been allotted to those who have worked on behalf of the DMK's women's team, but the seats have been allotted to wives and daughters using the influence of husbands. These women have not worked in any way for the party, which is very unfortunate," the women present in the protest lamented.

Coimbatore DMK women's wing members said they were engaged in a struggle in front of Minister Senthil Balaji’s house as he had finalized the list of candidates to contest the local body elections in Coimbatore district.
