Police have arrested a farmer for cultivating cannabis in a garden in Seeliyur near Karamadai. Investigation revealed that the produce was sold to customers who also purchased coconuts from the farmer.
Coimbatore: Police have arrested a farmer for growing cannabis in a garden in Seeliyur near Karamadai.
Rangaya Gowder hails from the Medur area near Seeliyur near Karamadai in Coimbatore district. His son is Sampath (48). He cultivates coconut and banana on his 2-acres of agricultural land.
The CID received a tip-off that Sampath was illegally growing and selling cannabis in his garden. Following this, the police rushed to the spot with the help of Karamadai police and froze in shock when they saw the garden.
The farmer has been growing cannabis plants illegally in the grove and selling them to Kerala drivers who visit his grove to purchase coconuts. The sale has been going on for the past few months.
The police arrested Sampath and confiscated one-and-a-half kg of cannabis and 3-kg of green cannabis plants that were meant for sale.
The farmer registered a case against him, arrested him, produced him in court and remanded him in custody.
