Suez tank construction; students and alumni write once again to Corporation Commissioner

The alumni and the students of the Ramanathapuram Government School have once again submitted a petition to the Corporation Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara seeking finding an alternate location for Suez tank construction.

Coimbatore: The Corporation Commissioner has been once again petitioned requesting to find an alternate location for the Suez Tank Construction.

A petition was submitted by the students and alumni on Tuesday despite the Deputy Commissioner’s assurance on allotting a different space for the Suez tank construction, on the 21st of January.

The construction of a reservoir at Government Higher Secondary School, in Ramanathapuram has been receiving an array of objections from school students, alumni, SFI, various political parties, among others as the construction affects the play ground and also the trees in the school premises.

Police registered a case against eight students who staged protests last Sunday under the Prevention of Communicable Diseases Act illegally. Five among them submitted a petition for alternative accommodation for the construction of the reservoir.

The school has been functioning for more than 70 years and the school has been home to 2,000 students. Currently, 493 is the student strength. The alumni have appealed the CCMC Commissioner to take steps to protect the school grounds by replacing the corporation water tank from the school grounds to another location.

They have demanded that the tank be constructed elsewhere as there are no other schools with such playgrounds and demanded its safety.

“Our aim is not to block the water tank that people need but to set it up in the right place and benefit the people and students. Though there is space available to construct the tank, setting it up in our school worries us”, stated that students.
