Coimbatore: As many as 12 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 20 out of the 100 wards in Coimbatore on Monday, ahead of the urban local polls.
Following announcement of the urban local body elections for Corporations, Municipalities and Town Panchayats to be held in a single phase on February 19, election work for 100 Corporation wards, 7 municipalities and 33 town panchayats in Coimbatore districts has geared up.
In Coimbatore where elections are being held for 100 wards, an Assistant Returning Officer has been appointed for 5 wards. Of the 12 candidates who filed nominations on Monday, 2 candidates filed in the Northern Zone, 2 in the Eastern Zone and 8 in the Central Zone under Coimbatore Corporation. Overall, 35 candidates have filed nominations in Municipalities and Town Panchayats.
