The Coimbatore District Electoral Officer said that work is in progress to fit the GPS equipment to the Election Flying Corps vehicles in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Work to fit GPS equipment in vehicles of the Election Flying Corps, is in progress, said the District Election Officer.
In Coimbatore district, local body elections will be held in a single phase for a total of 41 urban local bodies, including 1 corporation, 7 municipalities and 33 municipalities. Elections are to be held for 100 ward member posts in Coimbatore, 198 ward member posts in 7 municipalities and 513 ward member posts in 33 municipalities.
As the Code of Conduct for Elections came into force from the evening of the 26th of January, the Zonal Flying Corps was set up to check the distribution of cash and gift items to voters.
Accordingly, each area is being monitored 24 hours a day by 4 people including an assistant process engineer 2 police cinematographers. 72 flying squads have been set up in Coimbatore district to monitor election irregularities. These flying squadrons are engaged in intensive vehicle inspections in 5 zones and various parts of the district under the Corporation of Coimbatore.
According to the district election officer, there are 72 flying squadrons in Coimbatore district are on 24-hour inspection in various parts of the district. He informed that the GPS equipment is being fitted to the flying force vehicles.
