The Bharathiya Janata Party distributed Pongal gift package to differently-abled persons at Mettupalayam. More than 200 differently-abled persons received the Pongal gift pack that included rice, sugar, vermicelli, cashew nuts, dry grapes, cardamom, jaggery and bananas.
BJP state Agriculture Wing President G K Nagaraj and Coimbatore district observer A P Muruganantham participated in the event and presented the packages to the beneficiaries.
Later, speaking on the occasion, G K Nagaraj questioned why the ruling party has not announced ₹ 5,000 as Pongal assistance this year, when Stalin stated ₹ 2,500 was distributed during the AIADMK regime.
He also alleged that there was a huge scam in the Pongal gift package currently being distributed by the Tamil Nadu government, especially in procuring sugarcane from farmers for distribution to the public, and pointed out that the government had targeted the cost of procuring sugarcane from farmers for ₹ 12 and has mentioned the cost at ₹ 33.
He added that Stalin now welcomes Prime Minister Modi, who gave 11 medical colleges to Tamil Nadu, but he condemned Modi, while he arrived here during the last AIADMK regime with slogans like Go Back Modi. He mentioned that Stalin looks only to rule the people here.
Coimbatore Divisional Secretary Satish Kumar, Coimbatore North District President Sangeetha, Mettupalayam City President Uma Shankar and other prominent BJP figures were present on the occasion.
