Rs.8.79 crore for children who have lost their parents due to coronavirus - District Child Protection Officer

777 children who have lost single parents in the district. Of these, 78 are children above the poverty line. Of the remaining 699 children, 273 children have a deposit of Rs.3 lakh in their bank account. Steps have been taken to make the funds available to the remaining children as soon as possible. A total of 8.79 crore rupees has been allocated for children in Coimbatore district."


Coimbatore: The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced relief for children who have lost their parents due to coronavirus infection in Tamil Nadu. Of this, Rs.5 lakh was announced for children who lost both parents and Rs.3 lakh for children who lost their mother or father.

District Child Protection Project Officer R. Sundar said, "There are 19 children who have lost both parents in Coimbatore district from the beginning of Corona 2019 till now. Of these, 18 children are being cared for by their relatives. A child is included in the home through the District Child Protection Office. Of this, Rs.5 lakh has been deposited in the bank accounts of 12 children. Steps have been taken to raise money for the remaining 7 children soon. Similarly there are 777 children who have lost single parents in the district.

There are 51 child care homes operating in Coimbatore district. This includes children who cannot be cared for by their parents. Food, education for them as basic necessities up to the age of 18 is provided by the District Child Protection Office. So far there are 410 boys and 651 girls in Coimbatore district with a total of 1061 children in the district child care homes‌.
