"Meendum Manjapai": A goldsmith creates miniature manjapai in gold in Coimbatore

To raise awareness goldsmith Mariappan has designed gold bag miniatures in 200mg and 500mg with the words "good bye to plastic". He said that such awareness miniatures have been made to show the public and the District Collector that plastic products are harmful to the environment and soil resources and that cloth bags are not harmful.


Coimbatore: Mariappan is from the Ashok Nagar area of Coimbatore. He has been running a gold workshop in Coimbatore for the last thirty years. At present the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has advised to use Manjapai. Recently, a photo released by the Government of Tamil Nadu to show that Pongal items for the Pongal festival will be presented in yellow cloth bags (manjapai) was well received by the people.
