As bridge repair work is in progress as many as 22 trains were cancelled due to cracks in the Tiruvalam railway bridge.
Coimbatore: As many as 22 trains were cancelled due to cracks in the Tiruvalam railway bridge. Bridge repair work is in progress. The railway flyover was built in 1865 during British rule across the Ponnaiyar in Tiruvalam, Vellore district.
The bridge had cracks in the 38th and 39th pillars. As a result, three trains were cancelled on Dec 23 and Dec 24. At present all trains run on one lane and run on another railway bridge. As a result, trains from Chennai to Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore and Erode are delayed by several hours.

Mysore-Chennai Central Superfast runs up to Katpadi. The Lalbagh Express from Chennai Central to Bangalore runs from Katpadi. According to the railway administration, 22 trains will be cancelled on the 25th of this month.
