Tourists overjoyed as Nilgiri Mountain Railway service resumes on Wednesday

The Nilgiris Mountain Railway service that was halted due to landslides caused by incessant rains will resume operations from December 22.


Nilgiris: The Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) service that was halted due to landslides between Kallar and Adderley, caused by incessant rains will be resumed from December 22. The news left tourists overjoyed.

The UNESCO heritage NMR operates train services from Mettupalayam to Ooty and is a huge attraction for tourists visiting Nilgiris. The train journey on the NMR route is an exhilarating experience with the train winding through a breathtaking serene landscape that delights any avid traveller. A large number of tourists from neighboring states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala as well as foreign countries prefer the NMR train service to enjoy the natural beauty of the ‘Queen of Hills.’



The NMR service had been halted for the past one month due to heavy rains that caused landslides, with boulders falling on the tracks. Railway employees had been labouring intensely to clear the track in time for the second season in Nilgiris which attracts huge tourist footfall.
