Coimbatore: The Coimbatore city Deputy Commissioner has stated that the autopsy result of the minor girl who was found dead wrapped in a bedsheet, is awaited to determine if it is a case of rape.

A missing schoolgirl who was found dead in the bushes near a garbage dump in Yamuna Nagar next to Saravanampatti with her limbs tied has come as a shock and a case has been registered at the Saravanampatti police station, stated the Deputy Commissioner.

The corpse was first noticed by a scavenger, who was collecting garbage from Sivanandapuram Yamuna Nagar yesterday after noticing foul smell. Informed of this, the Saravanampatti police rushed to the spot and identified it to be a female corpse.

Investigations revealed a 15-year-old girl of Maruti Nagar in Sivanandapuram was missing and the parents had lodged a complaint. The parents confirmed that it was their daughter and the police await the post mortem results.

Deputy Commissioner Uma met reporters at the Coimbatore city police commissioner's office here.

She informed, “The girl was found dead wrapped near the garbage dump in the area and the body was found just 150 meters away from Kalaivani’s house. Post mortem is underway at the government hospital.”The police have arrested Muthukumar, a family friend for the murder. It is learned that Muthukumar and Kalaivani have disputes over exchange of jewellery. Allegedly, the girl was killed for not returning 4.25 grams of gold and an investigation is underway, informed the DC.

Further, she added that the speculations on rape will be proved only once the post mortem results are revealed and currently, a case has been registered for murder alone.

The deputy commissioner stated, “We have examined various cell phones related to the murder and arrested Muthukumar. We are conducting awareness in schools about POCSO Act. And such cases are registered in all-women police station east.”
