On the cards, plan to relocate Anganwadi Centers from private buildings in Coimbatore to Government buildings

At present, 177 Anganwadi Centers in Coimbatore district are functioning by paying rent to private building owners. Meanwhile, it is said that there are plans to relocate the Anganwadi Centers operating in the private building into government-owned buildings.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district is divided into a total of 18 areas, including 14 in rural areas and 4 in the Corporation, under which 1,697 Anganwadi Centers are functioning.

Anganwadi Centers are functioning under the Integrated Child Development Program of the Department of Social Welfare. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 are enrolled here. In Coimbatore district, more than 1.5-lakh children are studying here.



Children are provided basic education in Anganwadi Centers, with an exposure to sports and fed a balanced diet. Children are cared for in the anganwadis from 10 am to 4 pm. It is to be noted that children with working parents are enrolled at the Anganwadi Centers. At present, 177 Anganwadi Centers in Coimbatore district are functioning by paying rent to private buildings. Meanwhile, it is said that there are plans to relocate the Anganwadi Centers operating in the private building into government-owned buildings.



In addition, the government has identified Anganwadi Centers whose buildings are damaged and plans to renovate the building or prepare a new building project report.

An Integrated Child Development Project Officer said, "There is a shortage of space in private buildings. Also, rent has started to increase. Some of the Anganwadi Centers in government buildings are operating in very old buildings. It will be brought to the notice of the Tamil Nadu government soon on behalf of the administration."
