Police found ganja plants near a pond in Sulur area and immediately destroyed the plants by setting them afire.

Coimbatore: The police have set fire to ganja plants growing near a pond in Sulur area, near Coimbatore.

Sulur police received information that ganja plants had grown in the region and hence Sub-Inspectors Navaneethakrishnan, Rajendra Prasad and the police went to the area to inspect. They found some ganja plants near the pond and immediately set them afire.

The public stated that since there were numerous factories in the Pappampatti area, many migrant workers lived in the region. They also revealed that ganja dealers were foraying into the area targeting them. People smoke ganja in areas where there is no traffic and then end up disposing of the remaining in the area.

The seeds have reportedly grown into ganja plants due to the monsoon rains and plants have sprung up in many places near ponds and community halls, as well as by the roadside. The public had demanded for immediate action to completely destroy them and hence the police followed through by setting the plants on fire.
