Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police have booked a mother for causing the death of her newborn since she had attempted to deliver the baby by herself at home.

In a bizarre but unfortunate incident, the Big Bazaar Street police have booked Punniyavathi (32) who reportedly ended up causing the death of her newborn by attempting to deliver the baby on her own at home. The couple Vijaykumar (38), a daily wage labourer and Punniyavathi of Uppukara Street near Chetty Street have three children already.

Punniyavathi who was not happy with her fourth pregnancy chose to deliver the child on her own at her house and gave birth to a baby boy. The mother and baby were found fatigued and unconscious due to improper cutting of the umbilical cord. The relatives rushed them to a private hospital nearby and were later taken to the Government Hospital for further treatment. The doctors however declared that the baby was dead due to improper delivery.
