Coimbatore: In Chennai, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Secretary, Public Welfare Department gave an interview to reporters. He said so far 20 flights have arrived from the countries affected by the Omicron. 85 aircraft have arrived from the affected countries. So far we have tested a total of 12,188 people at airports. 6 of them have done clinical examination for Omicron. But so far no one has been detected with Omicron.

Dr. J. Radhakrishnan assured that there is no need to worry about Omicron virus. Those who came from abroad and those are being treated for coronavirus infection are fine, he said. He asked all not to spread unnecessary rumours about Omicron. He said two doses of vaccination can prevent Omicron and ensuing to wear a face mask regularly will make sure there is no spread.

He said at present, there is no need for curfew in Tamil Nadu. But, said that they will decide based on the insistence of the World Health Organization. He added that the Delta type coronavirus can be detected by RTPCR examination. But the RTPCR cannot detect the Omicron virus and it can be done only by doing genetic testing. He said that is why people with coronavirus infection in hospitals and are constantly monitored.
