According to reports, six lakh people yet to be inoculated for second dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Coimbatore

The District Health Department has stated that 6-lakh people in Coimbatore city are yet to be administered the second dosage of the Covid19 vaccine.

Coimbatore: The health department has stated that 6-lakh people have not received their 2nd instalment of vaccination in Coimbatore.

Among the 27,90,700 persons eligible for the Covid-19 vaccination, 27,69,673 have been injected with the first dose and 14,94,60 000 have been inoculated with the second dose of vaccination, as of last evening, according to the Union Government’s COWIN website. Corona vaccine has been administered in the Coimbatore district since January 16th and mass vaccine drives are being conducted every week since 12th September of this year.

While 99% have received their first jabs, while the percentage of people who have received their second jab stands at 53 percent, the time gap between two doses plays a major role. The health department has said that nearly 6-lakh people have not been administered the second dose, despite the end of the three-month gap.

Accordingly, Deputy Director of Health P Aruna stated that “6-lakh persons have not received the 2nd dose in Coimbatore till yesterday. Since the incidence of corona infection has decreased, many people have not been vaccinated for the 2nd instalment.”

She pressed that only on the inoculation of the 2nd dose, one can get complete protection from the corona virus. The time limit being 84 days and 40 days for Covishield and Covaxine respectively, special camps have been set up in villages to ensure easy vaccination. She directed that the eligible and persons waiting for the 2nd jab get their vaccines immediately.
