Two persons arrested in connection with the case of Sri Lankan drug trafficking king Angoda Lokka have been lodged in the Perundurai jail.
Coimbatore: Two persons arrested in connection with the case of Sri Lankan drug trafficking king Angoda Lokka have been lodged in Perundurai jail.
Angoda Lokka alias Pradeep Singh alias Maddumage Lasantha Chandana Perera, an underworld operative from Sri Lanka had been dwelling in Coimbatore with a pseudo identity. According to reports, he held an aadhar card in the name of Pradeep Singh. According to reports, he died of a cardiac arrest here and was declared dead on arrival at a private hospital here.
His body was recovered at the Coimbatore Government Hospital by giving fake certificates and cremated in Madurai. The media in island nation reported that the gangster was poisoned to death in India. The CBCID formed seven teams to scrutinise and investigate various aspects, including how he managed to illegally stay in India and how he forged documents to get an Aadhar card.
CBCID Inspector General of Police K Shankar and other senior officials held several rounds of talks with the RAW team who was in Coimbatore. While attempting to crack the case, it had come to light that Lokka was wanted in Sri Lanka in connection with serious offences. A 'red notice' was also issued for him by the Interpol. The RAW team discovered paramount clues to establish and confirm Lokka's identity.
In another development in the case, three people including T Sivakami Sundari and her Tiruppur friend S Dyaneswaran, and Amani Thanji, a Sri Lankan woman were arrested for helping Lokka get a fake aadhar card. According to reports, the gangster entered Tamil Nadu India in 2017 and from the following year onwards, he was living in Coimbatore. Having murdered Amani Thanji's husband in Sri Lanka, Lokka and Amani started staying together. With help from friends Sivakami Sundari and S Dyaneswaran, the gangster stayed in a rented apartment here with the Sri Lankan woman Amani Thanji.
In another development in the case, the involvement of Sivakami Sundari a Madurai-based lawyer has surfaced. Interestingly, it has emerged that Sivakami Sundari had transactions worth around Rs 1 crore in seven accounts. It is yet to be ascertained whether there is an LTTE connection with the case.
It has also come to light that Sundari had reportedly helped two other people in taking the Lokka’s body to Madurai for cremation. Sundari’s father is allegedly a known LTTE sympathiser.
Sivakami Sundari, who had assisted in burning Loka's body and Dianeswaran from Tiruppur were arrested and were released on bail. Amani Thanji was placed in the camp.
The Coimbatore CBCID was looking for the accomplices of the gangster who had given him asylum in India. On information that they were hiding in Bangalore, the DSP, led by Sivakumar, rushed to the spot and arrested Sanuka Tananayaka from Athurugiriya is a suburb of Colombo and Gopalakrishnan from Bangalore, who were hiding in the Kullappa Circle area of Bangalore.
The two arrested were brought to Coimbatore last night and produced before the CJM. The two were produced at the residence of Court Judge Sanjeevi Bhaskar and subsequently lodged in the Perundurai Jail.
