Government employees should be given more bonuses this year; CITU State President Soundarajan in Tirupur

Soundarajan, the state president of the CITU trade union and a former legislator said that companies in Tamil Nadu were refusing to form unions in private companies and that the government should intervene. He added that the minimum wage of 676 rupees for local workers in the local government sector must be implemented.



Tirupur: The CITU State Committee meeting was hosted at the Tirupur District Office of the Marxist Communist Party at Avinashi Road, Tirupur.

Soundarajan, the State President of the CITU trade union and a former legislator, told reporters today that companies in Tamil Nadu are refusing to form unions in private companies. He insisted that the government should intervene.

He added that the stipulated minimum wage is 676 rupees for local workers in the local government sector. However, currently only 391 rupees is paid which is a measure against the grassroots and insisted that the already announced minimum wage must be paid.

He also added that the AIADMK government had reduced the 20 per cent bonus for workers last year to 10 per cent. He stated an additional 20 per cent bonus must be paid this year.He also demanded that it be given 15 days before the Deepavali festival.

The Visa Committee should be set up to investigate the sexual harassment against women in Tirupur, Soundarajan said. He demanded compulsory weekend leave for women. He demanded a complete ban on alcohol in Tamil Nadu and that until then 5 per cent of the revenue from alcohol should be spent on spreading awareness and on medical assistance must be provided to the needed to free workers from alcoholism.
