NMR train service resumes after 4 days

Landslide between Kallar- Adderley railway stations had forced railway authorities to halt NMR train services for the last four days.

Coimbatore: The Nilgiris Mountain Railway train services resumed on Thursday after a four-day forced break due to a landslide between Kallar- Adderley railway stations caused due to heavy rains. It forced railway authorities to cancel the NMR train services for the last four days.

Heavy rains lashed Nilgiris district extensively during the last two weeks causing a landslide and uprooting trees on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor mountain railway line, between Kallar-Adderley train stations. Due to this, the NMR train service was cancelled for the past four days leaving tourists disappointed.

The railway staff cleared the landslide between Mettupalayam and Coonoor in spite of the heavy rains. Hence, the NMR train could resume its services on Thursday.

The mountain train with 180 passengers departed from Mettupalayam railway station at 7.10 am as usual.

Tourists enthusiastically boarded the NMR train. Some stood in front of the train to click selfies. Earlier today, the NMR train was decorated with coloured paper by the railway staff ahead of Ayudha Puja, with banana trees tied on it. Only after a special puja, the train departed.
