Routinely, the vaccination process which is done during the months of March or September is delayed this season, due to the pandemic.
Coimbatore: Perumal Swamy, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Coimbatore region stated that as many as 7,000 animals in Kerala TN border are vaccinated with the Komari (Foot and Mouth Disease) vaccine.
According to the Joint Director, “The Komari, (Foot and mouth vaccination) is administered to cattle in March or September in Tamil Nadu. The pandemic has caused a delay in the routine process this season. It is anticipated that the disease is likely to spread from Kerala. Thus, as a precautionary measure, 7,000 animals have been vaccinated in villages in and around Mulli, Anaikatti, Melpavi, Velandavalam, and Walayar in Coimbatore bordering Kerala.”
The Joint Director also cautioned livestock owners to be careful of the spread of disease, especially in the rainy season. Livestock owners are also advised not to allow their animals to graze in areas where water remains stagnated or tie animals under trees during the monsoon season.
