Social activists condemn leveling craters in Thadagam, Coimbatore

Activists state if the lands are leveled, excess soil and mineral loot cannot be reported when officers arrive


Coimbatore: The leveling of land in Thadagam, Mangarai area brick kilns were condemned by the social activists. The activists state that leveling of lands might cover the mineral and soil loot happening in the place.

More than 100 brick kilns function in the Thadagam area and numerous complaints arose stating the mineral resources were being looted. Owing to the complaint, the high court imposed a ban on the operation of kilns and acquiring sand. However, permissions were granted for acquiring soil for pottery recently.

The land near Mangarai were being leveled by Brick Kiln owners due to the presence of large craters in the area as excess soil was extracted. Social activists condemned this act, after a video of leveling the soil was being done. They also insisted that the district administration put a stop to this.

The activists state that the mineral and soil loot might get covered if the soil is leveled.
