Race Course police file case against 14 protesters including MLA Vanathi Srinivasan for flouting social distancing to condemn Govt's ban on temples

Led by the BJP National Women's Wing leader and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, women protesters carried fire pots abd banners to condemn ban on temples being closed on weekends and auspicious days.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Race Course police filed a case against 14 people, including Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, for staging a protest without social distancing. The BJP cadres condemned the DMK government for not opening temples on all days and staged a protest with fire pots and banners on Thursday.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has imposed various strict measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the district. Due to this, temples cannot open their doors to devotees on Fridays and weekends. Also on auspicious days and festivals, various restrictions are imposed on crowds gathering at temples.



Hence, more than 200 BJP workers staged a protest near Coimbatore Thandu Mariamman temple flouting social distancing and demanding that temples be reopened on all days. Led by BJP's National Women's Wing leader Vanathi Srinivasan, the protest was attended by women carrying fire pots and banners. They raised slogans questioning why schools and TASMAC outlets were open and not temples. Performances such as the Kali dance were also staged during the protest.

The Race Course police have filed a case against 14 BJP executives including Vanathi Srinivasan for staging a protest without social distancing.
