The elderly woman was lauded for her honest gesture both by the police and public.
Coimbatore: Karuppammal (60) was on her way home from the Coimbatore K K Chavady market area on Velandavalam Road, on Monday afternoon when she spotted a cellphone lying on the side of the road. Karuppammal immediately picked it up and handed it over to the K K Chavady police station nearby.
During the police investigation, it was revealed that the cellphone belonged to a youth named Karuppasamy (24) from the same area. The police informed the youth who went to the police station after receiving the news that his cellphone had been found. The elderly woman handed over the cellphone directly to the youth and was appreciated for her honesty. Sub-Inspector Saravanan presented her with a shawl. Both public and police officials have been lauding the elderly woman for her noble gesture in returning the cellphone.
