Minister for Information and Publicity inaugurates 6-day sanitation camp in Tirupur

Camp will involve cleaning up stagnant water and underground sewers that pose health hazards to public


Tirupur: The Minister for Information and Publicity, M P Saminathan inaugurated a 6-day sanitation camp in Tirupur. The camp which began on Monday will involve clearing stagnant waters, cleaning underground sewers and places of waterlogging in the city.

The camp is being held from September 20 to 25 with 3030 sanitary workers deployed to work in 60 different wards. Safety equipment was provided to all the employees engaged in the work. Minister M P Saminathan flagged off the massive cleanliness camp at the Parapalayam area.

Speaking to the media, Minister Saminathan said, 'As per the orders of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the camp will be held in all the districts in TN, with the first of the kind kick-starting at Tirupur. The aim is to make the city clean and a better place to live. The public should also extend their cooperation to this drive.'



Commenting on the increase in the usage of plastic in the Tirupur and Coimbatore regions, M P Saminathan stated that studies are being conducted to construct roads out of plastic bags. 'Also, bio-degradable bags are being studied and any success in the study should soon launch environment-friendly bags for public use,' he added.

Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Kayalkani Selvaraj, Southern Legislator Selvaraj, Corporation Commissioner Kranti Kumar and officials were also present on the occasion.
