Minister Sakkarapani inaugurates community baby shower for 2400 pregnant women at Peelamedu in Coimbatore

The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sakkarapani also announced that Superintendents of Police are to be appointed in Coimbatore district to curb rice smuggling.



Coimbatore: The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sakkarapani inaugurated a Coimbatore District Community Baby Shower for 2400 pregnant women across the Coimbatore District on behalf of the Integrated Child Development Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Women's Rights.

Welfare programs and donations were made at the baby shower ceremony for more than 2400 needy pregnant women, across the district.



The community event was held at 48 locations in Coimbatore district with 2400 participants.



At a function held at Peelamedu, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sakkarapani inaugurated the event by donating items to the pregnant women.

Briefing the media, Minister Sakkarapani said, "Though Coimbatore had been the worst-hit district during the first two waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, positive cases have been reduced to 200 now and the TN Government as well as the Coimbatore administration is geared up to combat the impending third wave.

Complete easing of existing restrictions will be done after the Covid-19 infection rate is completely controlled. Vaccination camps will be held at 1485 places next Sunday. Over 23 lakh people have been administered the first dose of vaccine and more than 6 lakh people have been administered with the second dose of the vaccines that fight Covid-19." The Minister also reiterated that people should be vigilant to ensure Covid-19 infections are completely controlled.

The Minister also announced that Superintendents of Police are to be appointed in Coimbatore district to curb smuggling of rice and stringent necessary steps will be taken to prevent such smuggling. He also commented on the probe being done based on the complaint lodged against former ADMK Minister S P Velumani. "This is not being done for the sake of local elections. The Anti-Corruption Department has definitely not conducted the inspection for political purposes," he opined.
