Compulsory 2 jabs, 10 days isolation in hostels must for students from other states.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer, Raja Gopal Sunkara has directed educational institutions in Coimbatore to isolate students from other states for at least 10 days before letting them attend classes.
Also, all students ought to have received both shots of the Covid vaccines. The CCMC Commissioner also stated that any educational instititution failing to comply with this directive will reap consequences.
Post the second wave, the cases in Tamil Nadu especially Coimbatore were controlled with due efforts on part of the Corporation. However, with the third wave likely to hit and the neighboring state of Kerala reporting alarming number of new Covid cases, extra precautions are being taken by the Government and the Coimbatore District Corporation to avoid another wave in the city.
Among these, the Tamil Nadu government announced the reopening of schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu after 17 long months from September 1. Colleges had students arriving from various districts and states in Coimbatore. This also opened gates for new cases of Covid-19, especially with likely chances of Nipah virus too, due to its recent outbreak in Kerala.
To avoid any more casualties, the Corporation Commissioner ordered all colleges( Arts & Science, Engineering, Medical) to ensure that students who come from other states into their institution should have had their two doses of vaccination and isolated for 10 days before being admitted for classroom sessions. The educational institutions should ensure they are isolated in their respective hostels. Covid-19 tests should also be conducted compulsorily. Failing to do so, institutions will be imposed with penalties and action will be taken.
It is to be noted that a few students who had come from Kerala were tested Covid-19 positive, as well.
