With eight school students testing positive for Covid-19, Dr. Nirmala advocated extreme caution for children.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Government Hospital Dean, Dr. Nirmala has stated that parents should insist children to follow safety and preventive guidelines to keep Covid-19 infection at bay. Directions were issued for parents as well.
With schools and colleges resuming from September 1 all across Tamil Nadu, Classes 9 to 12 students attended school on a rotational basis. Every day, students were tested before classes began. However, eight children tested Covid-19 positive in one of the schools.
In view of the fresh cases amongst students, Dr. Nirmala, Dean, Coimbatore GH stated, 'Third wave shall not be ignored, though measures are being taken to keep it under control. Hence, parents should explain ways and means to protect children from infection. The importance of washing hands frequently and wearing masks should be communicated. Avoiding over-crowding in schools and avoiding bus travel or rented auto rickshaws are necessary, instead use cycles. Parents should vaccinate themselves. Fewer students should be made to participate in the practical examination in schools. Following these basic safety measures will prevent infection, especially in children. Vaccinations are yet to be announced for people under 18, thus exposing school-goers to a potential risk,' she reiterated.
