CCTV footages raise suspicions in the death of unidentified woman who was run over by several vehicles on Avinashi Road

Transport Investigation Wing and Peelamedu's Law and Order wing intensify investigations on the gory death of the 50-year old woman on Avinashi Road.



Coimbatore: A 50-year old woman’s body was found completely smashed in the wee hours of Monday morning on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore. It was reported that she had been run over by several vehicles while she had attempted to cross the road.

Primary investigations revealed that a number of vehicles ran over her body. The TIW, Transport Investigation Wing retrieved the body and began their investigation. The team registered the case under 174 CrPC (Suspicious Death). The case was transferred to the Peelamedu Law and Order Wing who further took up the investigation and checked footage from CCTV cameras near the crime scene. The CCTV footages reveal suspicious actions of people who deliberately get off their vehicles to check on the body and later watch from a distance and leave.

Police suspect that this could be a murder and are on the lookout for the vehicles. Special squads suspect that the vehicles must have crossed through Kaniyur check post. The woman's corpse has been handed over to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post mortem. Police state that though they suspected this to be an accident initially, no complaints have been registered on any missing woman in the area. Hence the police suspect this could have been murder, which was made to look like an accident.
