30 sovereign jewellery stolen from houses of gold jewellery workshop owner and EB employee

Police are on the lookout for burglars who looted jewellery and cash from two houses in the city.


Coimbatore: City police are on the lookout for an unidentified man who stole 30 sovereign of jewellery from two houses in Coimbatore.

Prajit Paul (30) of Karupparayan Street on Variety Hall Road is the owner of a gold jewellery workshop. He is married and has two children. While Prajit Paul was at his gold jewellery workshop on Monday night, his wife locked the house and went to the market with their children. On returning home, they were shocked to find the door open and realised 24 sovereign of gold jewellery, 675 grams of silverware and Rs.15,000 in cash had been stolen.

They immediately informed the Variety Hall Road police and a case was filed based on the complaint. Police state that the culprit may have broken the lock of the door and entered the house, and then searched for the keys to the wardrobe to steal valuables.

Similarly in another incident at Gandhi Nagar in Cheranmanagar, the house of Ganesan (46), a resident of Coimbatore who works as an electrical accountant in the Chinniyampalayam Electricity Board office was burgled. Ganesan and his wife Ambikapathy had locked their house on Tuesday morning and left for work. When they returned in the evening, the door of the house was broken into. Shocked at finding their jewellery stolen from the wardrobe, they informed the Peelamedu police who registered a case and are searching for the culprits.
