BJP petitions District Collector to prevent headquarters of Seed Certification Department in city from being shifted to Chennai

BJP Agriculture Wing State Head, K Nagarajan petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector to prevent headquarters from being shifted to Chennai

Coimbatore: The Seed Certification and Organic Certification Department headquartered in Coimbatore is likely to have its headquarters shifted to Chennai.

The Agriculture Wing State Head, BJP, K Nagarajan petitioned the District Collector G S Sameeran to take steps to prevent the headquarters from being shifted since farmers would suffer.

The petition read, “The Agriculture Minister, M R K Paneerselvam had announced in the Assembly that the head office of the Seed Certification and Organic Certification Department shall be shifted to Chennai. The move, however, will not prove beneficial and rather cause farmers to struggle. Every day, over 100 farmers in and around Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode and Tirupur consult this office for various kinds of support and advice. These will naturally get affected if the farmers have to visit Chennai every single time. The current head office is approachable and over 2000 farmers have received their certificates, which shall also be disturbed. Hence, the District Collector should take appropriate steps to ensure the office is not shifted to Chennai.”

K Nagarajan also stated that a demonstration will be held on September 21 if demands are not met.
