Coimbatore: Coimbatore witnessed a surge in Covid-positive cases during the second wave of the pandemic which led to wedding halls and educational institutions being turned into Covid-treatment centres. Now, with the daily number of cases having declined and schools across the city all geared up to reopen on September 1, arrangements are underway to stop treating patients in educational institutions.
However, the infrastructure facilities set up for Covid care will remain undisturbed in the event of a third wave of Covid-19 or for any emergencies.
District Collector G S Sameeran said, “Many places in Coimbatore, like the Bharathiar University were all transformed into Covid-treatment centres. These institutions will now resume work since Covid-positive cases have declined, and patients in these centers will be transferred to the Codissia treatment entre.”
In the event of fresh cases, the patients will not be admitted in any educational institutions for treatment since these campuses are being disinfected and prepped up for functioning as proper schools and colleges.
