Coimbatore: Following the coronavirus spread in Tamil Nadu, the government has announced various relaxations in the curfew. The government has given permission to open theaters, entertainment hotels, parks and fitness centers from yesterday. Also, the opening hours of shops have been increased. Traders and farmers said Pollachi cattle market, which has been closed for two consecutive months due to the curfew, was expected to reopen at the now-announced relaxation. Yesterday, Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran issued an order extending the ban on the cattle market to control the spread of the disease.
Thus, cattle traders and farmers who had been waiting for the market to function as usual on Tuesdays and Thursdays have been disappointed. The cattle market is deserted as cows are not brought for sale. Billions of rupees in trade have been affected and thousands of workers have lost their jobs. Therefore, the cattle traders, who said that they will cooperate to control the spread of the disease in compliance with the regulations imposed by the government, have demanded that the market be allowed to operate as soon as possible.
