66 cents of allotted land for a community hall is presently in the hands of private parties; Public demand Corporation to recover the land
Coimbatore: Periyar Nagar which was founded under the Town Planning Department and placed under Ward no.35 in Kalapatti Nehru Nagar comprises a total of 12.14 acres, divided into 138 plots in the area. 66 cents were allotted for the construction of a community hall, 55 cents for a children’s park, and 4.5 cents for the construction of an overhead tank.
These lands are under the alleged to be under the possession of the Coimbatore Corporation. The 66 cents allotted for a community hall is now reportedly under the possession of seven private parties, and illegally sold by the promoter say residents.
Update: 24/08/2021 6:35 PM: One of the owners of the land allegedly allotted to community hall has reacted to the article in SimpliCity saying that promoter is entitled to sell property based on an earlier GO.
The 66 cents site was divided into 10 sites and registered at the Sub-Registrar's office, Vadakkancheri in Palakkad District, Kerala in 1989 and was first sold. Later in 1995, it was registered with the Sub-Registrar's office, Gandhipuram in Coimbatore just by paying the stamp duty. Periyar Nagar residents claim that the value of the community hall site is Rs. 10 crores and hence have raised a complaint stating that they raised the issue many years ago but it had not been attended to yet.
Also, in 2015, a notice board was placed on behalf of the Corporation at the site which had been removed and a wire fence was erected by a private party. Following a series of petitions, the Corporation has now put up a notice board at the site again. However, the private occupants of the land seem to have not taken the board seriously and have not vacated the land.
Public are now demanding that Corporation should recover the land from the illegal private owners.
