Late T.M.Kaliannan holds an important part in the history of Indian Politics. He abolished the Zamin system. He was a prominent social worker and died at the age of 101 on 28 May 2021.
Coimbatore: Karthikeya Siva Senathipathy, Secretary of the State Environment team, gave a press release todayand put forth joint request along with Karur MP Jothimani and several other dignitaries from Kongu area met the Chief Minister to name the Namakkal Medical College after T.M.Kaliannan.
In the press release, he stated that, 'Late T.M.Kaliannan holds an important part in the history of Indian Politics.' He has been a prominent figure in the constituent assembly under Dr.Ambedhkar’s leadership, 3-time MLA, Salem Zilla Board Chairman(1954-57), director of Indian Bank, BHEL and various other prestigious positions. He has also been a national servant and worked closely with freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Kamarajar.
He stated that 'T.M.Kaliannan is the pioneer for many irrigation projects in the Kongu region' He pioneered the Industrial revolution in the region with Mohanur, Salem Cooperative Sugar Mills, Seshasayee Paper Mills and Sangagiri India Cements.
He abolished the Zamin system and helped poor and deprived class by providing lands in acres. He belonged a prominent social worker and died at the age of 101 on 28 May 2021.
Reminiscing his contributions to the Indian politics and the society, Karthikeya sivasenthipathy requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to name the Namakkal medical college under T.M Kaliannan’s name.
