Exclusive: 200 crore units of wind electric power go waste in a year in Tamilnadu

Unexpected power cuts cost huge power wastage in TN; Schemes to be discussed to avoid such events in future


Coimbatore: Renewable energy resources are a huge replacement for the increasing need for power. However, reports state that 200 crore units of power generated through wind energy go waste due to the unexpected grid curtailment.

TN has the infrastructure facilities for generating 9,500 MW of electricity. 10000 million unit electricity is being generated in Tamil Nadu every year through Wind power generation sector.

The power generators stated that '3000MW of power is being generated from Solar energy and 9500 MW from wind resources. Tamil Nadu has facilities to generate power through various other resources as well'

He stated that, however, Grid curtailment has caused wastage of 200 crore units of power, which the department has now jumped into action to prevent it from happening. The department has planned to eradicate wastage of power in Tamil Nadu, just like that in Karnataka, Gujarat and certain foreign nations as well.

A meeting is to be held to raise awareness on the issue and the wind generation sector will work closely with the government on Grid Curtailment to avoid this from happening in the future.
